課程概述

This course is aimed to examine the history and development of Pacific archaeology in general. 

課程目標
 It is designed to help students to understand better the prehistory of the Pacific, and current trends of research issues conducted in these islands, in order to provide regional comparison cases. 
課程要求
 We will read the whole book "On the Road of the Winds: An Archaeological History of the Pacific Islands before European Contact, by P.V. Kirch (2000), University of California Press, Berkeley". plus other materials that I will assign every week to the students base on different topics.

You will need to turn in a one page reading report for that week to me before 10am Monday morning, along with your questions about the text, so that I can focus on issues more related to students needs. (30%)

In-class tests accounts for 10%.

Three times a semester, you will need to give a 3-5 pages reading report, and present your opinions about them in class within 10 minutes PPT. Extra readings will be assigned to you in advance so that you can work on them, and this PPT and reading report is due on the same week you are going to present, Monday before 10am. (30%)

There will be a final paper(30%). For your final paper, you need to give me your paper title by 10/2, your outlines and abstract by 11/27, and schedule a meeting with me to discuss the final paper content, before the deadline of turning it in on 1/8/2013.

You will need to pass a map test, which starts at the 3rd week of the class. You can take the same test up to 5 times, but you will need to get 90/100 in order to pass the test.
